Collin County Sheriff Terry Box last week presented awards to seven deputies and one Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden for their selfless acts of bravery in response to the Dec. 26 tornadoes that ravaged Collin County and the Dallas area.
Sgt. Andrew Hatch, investigators Jeff Brownrigg, Chris Ware, Kyle Nevil, Gerald Rutledge and Billy Lanier, and Game Warden Joshua Ross all received Meritorious Service awards. Investigator Chuck Sibley received the Medal of Valor award.
One of the multiple tornadoes that late-December night severely impacted the eastern side of Collin County, presenting “an immediate danger to the residents that were in the direct path of the storm,” a sheriff’s office release stated.
The tornado had already injured several – and killed others in the area – as well as destroyed property before the deputies and game warden left their homes to respond to the emergency.
“These brave public servants response to the emergency during the December tornado activity prevented further loss of life,” Capt. Jim Moody stated.
