From accounting and business ownership to church leadership, community service, and public office, Scott Sanford's journey has been shaped by faith, stewardship, and a commitment to serving people and the community he calls home.
McKinney has been home to Scott Sanford for decades, and serving the community has become an important part of his life.
From mentoring students and supporting children and families to volunteering with local organizations and community initiatives, Scott's journey has been shaped by the people he has met and the relationships he has built along the way.
Scott's professional journey began with accounting and business, creating a foundation that would later shape his work in church leadership, organizational operations, and public service. His experience spans finance, business ownership, ministry, and government.
Scott earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Taxation from Baylor University, establishing the academic foundation for his work in accounting, finance, and operations.
His professional experience included work at Ernst & Young, adding depth to the accounting and financial background that would become part of his broader leadership experience.
Scott went on to own two franchise businesses, gaining firsthand experience with the practical responsibilities of running organizations and making decisions that affect people and operations.
Scott began serving at Cottonwood Creek in 1997, when the church was still known as First Baptist Church of Fairview. He continues to serve the church family as Executive Pastor for Stewardship and Operations.
His responsibilities have brought together financial stewardship, organizational operations, budgeting, real estate, construction, information technology, human resources, facilities, and strategic planning.
Scott served through major seasons of growth and change, including the church's move to Allen in 2002 and the opening of its worship center in 2007. His ministry work continued behind the scenes, helping support the church's people and mission.
From 2013 to 2023, Scott represented House District 70 in the Texas House of Representatives. His decade in public office brought together his experience in accounting, business, and church leadership.
During his time in the House, Scott served on committees including Public Education and Ways and Means and chaired the Republican Caucus Policy Committee for two legislative sessions.
His professional journey has also included years of community involvement, including mentoring students, supporting children and families, participating in civic organizations, and serving alongside local volunteers.
Today, Scott's journey brings together business, ministry, and public policy. He also serves as Senior Advisor for Texas Values, continuing a career shaped by leadership, stewardship, faith, and service.
In 1997, Scott began serving at Cottonwood Creek Church, when it was still known as First Baptist Church of Fairview. Nearly three decades later, he continues to serve the church family as Executive Pastor for Stewardship and Operations.
His ministry has included some of the church's most significant seasons of growth and change, including the move to Allen in 2002 and the opening of the worship center in 2007. Through it all, Scott's work has remained closely connected to the practical responsibilities that support ministry: stewardship, budgeting, planning, and daily operations.
Through the Cottonwood Creek Foundation, Scott also helps families explore planned and legacy giving, creating opportunities to think about what matters to them and how they can support the church's ministry for years to come.
Teaching Scripture is another part of his ministry. He has shared in the church's men's Bible study, including introducing the "Ordinary Men" series. For Scott, ministry extends beyond the responsibilities of a leadership position—it is about putting faith into practice and serving others.
From 2013 to 2023, Scott represented House District 70 in the Texas House of Representatives, serving through five regular and seven special sessions.
His legislative work included 364 bills and resolutions he authored or jointly authored, covering issues involving families, education, government, business, and local communities.
