Troop 413 cleaned and repaired sacred ground at the St Paul Cemetery in Melissa on Monday. Located behind the Melissa Cemetery, this historic ground is resting place to residents dating back to the 1800s.
The Boy Scouts mowed, trimmed and were able to repair three fallen headstones. Several of the grave sites were uncovered after years of growth and were found after the cleanup started. One was covered by tree growth and when the limbs were trimmed a grave stone of a WWII veteran was discovered. The Scouts took extra care to make sure this grave marker was easy to see. The day began with a backpack hike and ended with hard work and respect to those often forgotten.
Troop 413, located in Melissa, is well known for its years of community service, preserving and restoring the historical past and memories of Melissa.
