The rotary club of Prosper is once again this year distributing flags in various neighborhoods, in front of local businesses and along Preston Road. The most recent distribution was in honor of our country’s 100th anniversary of Flag Day, as first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson.

“Our Flag Program is designed to raise funds for various local charities,” said Joey Womble, Prosper Rotary Foundation Chair. “This year alone, our foundation has organized, along with the help of Proper Education Foundation and Prosper Ladies Association, and awarded 71 scholarships for deserving Prosper ISD seniors to Collin College for next year.”

“In addition, we give money to local charities: PLA light lunch program; Angel Tree; Bethlehem Place; Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County; Main Gate; Cornerstone; Shelter Box International,” added Club President Greg Dyer. “We lease flags to residents and businesses in Prosper for $50 per year. All these funds go to our charity, the Prosper Rotary Foundation, thus it is a legitimate write-off for the resident and helps us raise the funds for our charitable efforts. We maintain the flags and distribute them on 5 Patriotic Holidays.”

Rotarian Aaron McNeal was very moved by what he witnessed while distributing flags in Light Farms.

“A mom was there with her children and they were standing and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance,” recalled McNeal.

“With humble beginnings a few years ago, the flag program has grown to over 30 neighborhoods in Prosper,” said Womble. “We are now up to over 1300 flags and welcome more customers before our next distribution July Fourth.”
