Prosper High School junior Natalie Filiatrault has dreams of going to college and becoming a veterinarian, but until that day comes she has decided to do what she can to help those animals in need right now.

Filiatrault, who has volunteered with the SPCA of Texas and believes in what the organization does, is teaming up with the Prosper FFA and the SPCA of Texas to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award by recognizing the growing number of animals in shelters within the Collin County area and their desperate need for more pet supplies.

To support this growing need in the community, a collection drive for supplies will be held at Prosper High School on Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To increase educational support for pets and pet owners, there will also be informational brochures on hand. If you are thinking about adding a pet to your family, adopting from your local shelter can be a good option to give an animal in need a loving home.

“Through my development of this project, I began addressing the needs of the community,” Filiatrault said. “In recognizing the growing number of animals in shelters within the Collin County area, there is a desperate need for more pet supplies in our shelters.

“I feel that with the growth in the Prosper area, the community should be aware of the resources available to them,” she added. “Adopting from your local shelter can be a wonderful option to give an animal in need a forever home.”
