Melisa residents filled the new city pavilion on the evening of Aug. 4 for a city-hosted event honoring the first responders who serve and live in the community.
There were prayers by Pastors Ryan Ross, Trey Graham and Rev. Stacy Piyakhun, the Pledge of Allegiance as led by Boy Scout Troop 413, welcoming remarks by Mayor Reed Greer and then the first responders, the guests of honor, were introduced to thunderous rounds of applause.
Honored from the Melissa Police Department were Police Chief Duane Smith, Capt. Kyle Babcock, Sgt. Ed Dixon, Corporal Michael Groettum and Officers John Leal, Roger Thornhill, Molly Norton, Robert Simpson, Bryan Kile, Jimmie Stanley, Michael Hagood and Reserve Officer Kevin Ripley.
Also honored were Melissa ISD Police Chief Kelly Davidson and Officer Scott Barrett, as well as officers in attendance from Allen, Farmers Branch, McKinney, Plano, Prosper ISD and Richardson police departments.
Honored from the Melissa Fire department were Chief Harold Watkins, Assistant Chief Carl Nix, Captains Gari Sansing, Alan Sheehy, Chad Reed, Jake Leonard and Ryan Chalk, Lieutenants Matt Sobol, Rick Thurman and James Frame and firefighters Steph Bouillion, Cameron Brewer, Kelton Brewer, Jessica Butler, Krista Creed, Jonathan Duncan, Jonathon Dutsch, Josh Ferguson, Jose Hernandez, David Horan, Bryn Hudson, Brent Kemp, Kolby Lee, Paul Lopez, Thomas McCoy, Britt Nelson, Roberto Perez, Chase Roberts, Wesley Russell, Austin Smotherman, Joe Vargas, David Weimer, Chandler Williams, Tyler Wine, Shawn Wissinger and Chaplain Ernie Martin.
Those in attendance were asked to sign “Back the Team Banner,” recognizing the police and fire departments, that will be hung in City Hall.
