The Melissa boys and girls squad both competed in the District 12-4A meet on Oct. 19 at Country Ridge, and both both left with trophies and a place in the regional meet Monday in Arlington.
The varsity boys captured a district championship. They were led by Elijah Mackey, who placed second. Jack Clemans had a fourth place finish, with Zachary Weaver in sixth followed by Jackson Scribner in seventh. The team’s fifth runner, Blake Chaloupka, finished in 12th place, with Dain Miller in 16th and Haggai Dillashaw finishing out the varsity team in 20th position. The boys will compete again Monday at the regional meet.
The junior varsity boys, with a limited team of only four runners, had a solid competition. All the runners finished in the top 14 places in the race. Joey Vasquez finished in first and Dion Galbreath finished second, while James Killingsworth finished in sixth with Drew Richardson in 14th.
The girls varsity team finished with a second place finish in the meet with a strong run from Elise Hawn, who finished third. Skyla Mackey finished in seventh, while Gillian Stopinski finished right behind her in eighth place. In 12th place was Kendall Bates, followed by Reagan Eichel in 13th, Erin Eichel in 15th and rounding out the team was Allie Graham in 29th.
The junior varsity girls took the second place trophy in their division. With strong runs from first place finisher Emma Schaeffer, second-place finisher Sarah Wiedeman and Lilly Hubbard, Abby Minchey, and Autumn Cory, the girls were able to finish the season on a strong note.
