Melissa Schools celebrated the arts on April 16 at Melissa High School with the district’s first annual “Expresso Yourself” event.

The five-hour Fine Arts Night featured student artwork and performances, along with coffee from Starbucks and snacks.

The Melissa High School gym transformed into an art gallery, showcasing displays full of artwork created by students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The cafetorium housed back-to-back performances from students in band, choir, and theater, concluding with the first public performance of “The Arabian Nights” by Melissa High School’s One Act Play.

“We started planning this event early in the school year and I am so happy with what was accomplished on Saturday,” said Melissa Middle School art teacher Monica Baldwin. “All of the performances were wonderful and the art was spectacular!”

Kim Boedeker, Executive Director of Academic Leadership added, “Many of our students stayed late and came early to help set up, in addition to performing. We couldn’t have done this without them.”

The “Expresso Yourself” performance line-up featured: fourth grade; fifth grade; Gentlemen of the Melissa Choir; Melissa Middle School Theatre, Beginner Band, Symphonic Band, andWind Ensemble; and Melissa High School Treble Choir, Drumline, Winter Guard, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and One-Act Play.
